Note from our President:    A few years ago friends encouraged me to join the Lions Club. I did not know much about the Lions at that time and perhaps you don’t either, but if you will bear with me for a few moments, I will tell you some really interesting things: • Lions Clubs have more than 1,400,000 members in 180 countries throughout the world. Lions provide humanitarian aid wherever it is needed, whether it is helping Tsunami victims located halfway around the world or those whose homes and lives have been devastated by hurricanes in our country. • The Riverside Township Lions Club supports numerous charitable organizations which help those who are blind and deaf as well as children and adults who are disabled or have special needs. • You may be familiar with the local community groups that we also support including: Community Care Options, Helping Hand, People Care, Seguin Services, and Southwest Suburban Center on Aging. We assist our youth by donating to the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and Explorer Scouts as well as the Anti-Drug Programs at Hauser Junior High and Riverside-Brookfield High School. We also provide funds to the North Riverside and Riverside Libraries so they can purchase items such as large print books and video magnifier equipment. • Each year in Riverside Township, we collect over 5,000 used eyeglasses and hearing aids which are then refurbished and provided free to people throughout the world who cannot afford to purchase them. • In the past year, we conducted a Hearing Screening, Vision Screening and an Informational Seminar regarding the new Medicare Drug Plan. All of these events were offered free to Township residents. In quick summary, I enjoy being part of an organization that provides substantial help to those in need. I am also fortunate to enjoy the camaraderie among my fellow Lions members. You too can reap the personal rewards of helping others, and enjoy the friendship of other Lions.
